BCI Chairman Announces Mandatory Training for All Lawyers at Upcoming National Legal Academy in IIULER Goa
Bar Council of India Chairman has announced that young lawyers from across India will undergo mandatory professional training at the proposed National Legal Academy to be setup at IIULER campus in Goa.
Bar Council of India is all set to setup a National Legal Academy at the India International University of Legal Education and Research (IIULER) campus in Goa, where young lawyers across the country will be sent to undergo mandatory training.
Delivering an address to students, BCI Chairman Mishra said Bar Council of India will establish the National Legal Academy at IIULER as directed recently by Supreme Court.
“We have decided to set up the National Legal Academy at your campus here in Goa. The BCI has been directed by the court to set up a National Legal Academy.”

Mishra further stated that the new National Legal Academy will be run along similar lines to National Judicial Academy that functions currently out of Bhopal.
He said that the objective of the National Legal Academy will be to provide professional training and continued legal education for lawyers across the country.
Mishra added that the Bar Council of India will be responsible for the administration and functioning of the National Legal Academy.
Mandatory Training Program
The Bar Council Chairman also said that the training program conducted at the National Legal Academy will be mandatory for all lawyers and will be conducted over a period of approximately 10 days to two weeks.
Young Lawyers all over India to take training at Goa Campus:
Explaining more details about the training initiative at Goa campus, Mishra said lawyers who recently enroll as advocates will be required to take part in the training program at the National Legal Academy. Young lawyers and law graduates from across India will travel to Goa for take part in the training course.
“Every young lawyer from all over India will come to take training here at Goa campus in the National Legal Academy.”
BCI Chairman MishraStudents studying at IIULER will also benefit from interactions with judges, legal academics, professional trainers and senior advocates through the programs conducted at the National Legal Academy.

IIULER Main Campus in Goa Expected to be further developed :
Mishra also spoke about a meeting held earlier on August 8 between Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Advocate General Devidas Pangam and Justice Narasimha.
Speaking about the meeting, Mishra said there was a discussion about further developing the main IIULER campus located in Dharbandora.
Spread across over 50 acres of land, the infrastructure on the main campus will see further development going forward over the next couple of years.
Mishra said IIULER's aims to be at the forefront of providing quality legal education by not just developing into a center for legal studies but also expanding into legal research.
Personality development important: Justice Narasimha :
While speaking to students, Justice Narasimha spoke about the importance of personality development in the early stages of their legal education.
Encouraging students to break out of the typical way of learning, Justice Narasimha said students should focus on developing a multidisciplinary understanding of law.
“There will be blurring of lines between the two subjects in future. We have to understand the various branches.”
Justice NarasimhaLaw Students advised to carefully use Artificial Intelligence:
Artificial Intelligence was one of the other topics touched upon by Justice Narasimha. He cautioned students to properly use tools such as AI while learning and doing legal work.
Narasimha said that law students and future lawyers should use technology such as AI but not let it impair their independent critical analysis skills.
Ensuring that students do not become complacent in their abilities to think for themselves, Narasimha told students to continue to understand the law, analyse facts, work out legal principles and develop a habit of independent research.
AI and Legal Education
The message to students was that they should learn to use new technology and should not let it hamper their intellectual curiosity or their ability to reason out answers by just thinking.

Goa Advocate General Devidas Pangam and Professor Deveral Capps from Leeds Law School in United Kingdom were also present during the session and addressed students.
Delivering the welcome address at the start of the event was IIULER Vice Chancellor Dr R. Venkata Rao. Proposals to set up a National Legal Academy in Goa will open up numerous opportunities for students at IIULER and legal professionals to interact, share knowledge and training.

Setup of a National Legal Academy represents a new development for lawyers in India who may soon be required to take part in compulsory training programs. National level training academies could pave the way for creating a standardized system of training young lawyers on topics such as advocacy skills, professional ethics, practical knowledge and exposure to new technologies impacting the legal profession.
