Kerala Court Rejects Bail Pleas of Suhail Sajeev and Three Others in Mini Cooper Crash Case

Three young lives were lost after a Mini Cooper collision near Kochi airport on 11th October. The car which was being driven by Suhail Sajeev(19) rammed into the scooter on which the three were riding.

The court in Kerala on Saturday has rejected the bail application filed by Suhail Sajeev and 3 others for the incident where a Mini Cooper caused the deaths of 3 bike riders.

Sajeev and Ninav Joel and Ameer approached the trial court in Angamaly seeking for bail.

But bail was rejected by Judicial First Class Magistrate Samyuktha MK.

On 11th October a mini cooper which was being driven by Sajeev was driving at a high speed which resulted in collision with a scooter in which three young boys were riding on Athani -Airport road in Nedumbassery. All 3 lost their lives.

As per FIR all three fell on the road and sustained grievous injuries on head and body. Out of the three two died on the spot and the third one later died due to injuries.

Nedumbassery Airport PS has registered a case against the accused under section 105 of BNS which is culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

Subsequently police have arrested Sajeev and 3 others for the offence. The other three were seated in the car along with the driver Sajeev.

The accused were sent to 14 days judicial custody on 14th October.

Sources suggest that Sajeev was under the influence of alcohol while driving.

During the bail petition filed on 16th October it was argued by the counsel for the accused that this case was one of rash and negligent driving and not culpable homicide.

The argument went that the deceased too broke the traffic rule by all three riding on a scooter and were driving on the middle lane.

It was contended that the charge of abetment for the other three accused was baseless because they just travelled with Sajeev.

But the prosecution and the counsels for the victim stated that the incident cannot be clubbed with any other case of rash and negligent driving.

They made it evident through CCTV footage that the accused had been visiting bar's and were intoxicated at the time of the accident. The other accused in the car also incited him to drive.

The court today rejected the bail petition.

Counsels appearing for Sajeev are Adv. Saiby Jose Kidangoor Adv.Sreeraj S Rajaram and Adv. Afsana Khan.
